Curved crystal leaves are hung tightest and lowest at the foot of the piece, then loosen and rise around the stair void, so the density falls away with height and the flock appears to be lifting. Clear and amber leaves are mixed through it with the amber concentrated at the base, so the ascent reads as a change of colour as well as of density. GOLDFINCH lifts curved crystal leaves in clear and warm amber upward around a stair hall, tightest at the base and opening out as they rise, so the piece reads as a flock climbing the void.

A crystal leaf chandelier, rising through the stair
GOLDFINCH is composed as an ascent. Curved crystal leaves are hung tightest and lowest at the foot of the piece, then loosen and rise around the stair void, so the density falls away as the height increases and the flock appears to be lifting rather than hanging.
Clear and amber leaves are mixed through the flock, with the amber concentrated toward the base where the piece is densest. That warms the heart of the composition and cools it toward the top, so the ascent reads as a change of colour as well as of density as the eye follows it up the void.
