HELIX is a spiral glass ceiling light by SHUCHUANG. Each unit is a fan of fine glass rods splayed from a small hub into a pleated arc and dotted along their length, and the fans are placed so each is turned a few degrees further than the one before, their hubs following a curving path. Because the rotation is continuous, the eye joins them into one sweeping motion and the ceiling appears to turn slowly while nothing moves. HELIX arranges pleated fans of fine glass rods into a slow spiral across a reception ceiling, each fan rotated a little further than the last, so a scatter of separate fans resolves into one turning current.

A spiral glass ceiling light, built from pleated fans
Each unit in HELIX is a fan: fine glass rods splayed from a small hub into a pleated arc, dotted along their length so the fan reads as a curved comb of light. The fans are the fixed vocabulary; the spiral comes entirely from how they are placed.
Set across the ceiling, each fan is turned a few degrees further than the one before, and their hubs follow a curving path. Because the rotation is continuous, the eye joins them into one sweeping motion, and the ceiling appears to turn slowly overhead while nothing about it moves.
