GROVE is a sculptural glass installation by SHUCHUANG. A dense stand of ribbed glass stems fills the volume rather than hanging above it, dropping to a range of heights so the piece has a plan and a section rather than just a face. Each stem is assembled from stacked glass segments whose joints catch light in a way a single length would not, and sources above the stand fire down through it so the light is carried inside the glass. A sculptural glass installation, planted as a thicket
A dense stand of ribbed glass stems fills the whole volume rather than hanging above it. The stems drop to a range of heights — some stopping near the ceiling, others reaching down beside the seating — so the piece has a plan and a section rather than just a face.
Each stem is assembled from stacked glass segments, and the joints between them catch light in a way a single length would not. Sources sit above the stand and fire down through it, so the light is carried inside the glass and the room beyond is seen through a screen of bright vertical lines.
