FOLIA is a crystal leaf chandelier by SHUCHUANG. Every leaf is an open frame — a central rib with fine ribs running off it, strung with crystal so the veining is described in line rather than surface — which lets the cluster stay dense without closing the space beneath the skylight. Under daylight the leaves read as silver drawings against the sky; after dark the internal sources take over and the same lines become the only bright thing in the void. Leaves turning under a skylight
FOLIA gathers a cluster of crystal leaves directly beneath a round skylight, hung on fine cables at different heights. Each leaf is drawn in beaded lines rather than filled in, so daylight passes straight through the group.

Every leaf in FOLIA is an open frame: a central rib with fine ribs running off it, strung with crystal so the veining is described in line rather than surface. Nothing is solid, which is why the cluster can be dense without closing the space beneath the skylight.
The piece works twice a day. Under daylight the leaves read as silver drawings against the sky; after dark the internal sources take over and the same lines become the only bright thing in the void, with the skylight behind them gone black.
